The company is waiving long-distance charges through July 15 to help customers stay connected with relatives and business contacts.
Claro Puerto Rico announced Friday that it is offering free international calls to Venezuela for all of its mobile and residential telephone customers following the powerful earthquakes that struck several regions of the South American country.
The initiative applies to prepaid and postpaid mobile subscribers, both individual and business accounts, as well as residential landline customers. The benefit took effect at 11:30 a.m. on July 3 and will remain available through 11:59 p.m. on July 15.
Eligible customers will automatically receive free long-distance calling from Puerto Rico to Venezuelan telephone numbers without the need for activation or additional enrollment.
The announcement comes as Venezuela continues to respond to the aftermath of a series of earthquakes measuring above magnitude 7.0, which have disrupted communications, damaged infrastructure and affected communities in several parts of the country.
“We understand the anxiety families experience during emergencies of this magnitude and the uncertainty of not being able to communicate with loved ones,” said Enrique Ortiz de Montellano, president and chief executive officer of Claro Puerto Rico. “At Claro, we want to stand with the Venezuelan community in Puerto Rico during this difficult time and help ensure that distance is not an obstacle to staying connected with those who need it most.”
The telecommunications provider said the temporary measure is intended to help customers reach relatives, friends and business contacts in Venezuela without incurring international long-distance charges.
Claro encouraged customers seeking additional information to visit its official social media channels on Facebook and Instagram (@ClaroPR).
